4.Police, prisoners and the great political protagonist – Millbank to Piccadilly

Starting by Tate Britain the group will learn the history of the site and learn stories of the prisoners of Millbank. The group will journey along the Thames and the sinister connotations of Millbank tower. In parliament square the story of Guy Fawkes and Westminster hall will give an insight to the history of the houses of parliament as well as the guide informing the group of other historical references surrounding Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and Parliament Square. Whitehall is overflowing with history and actors will play out some of the more interesting tales that are masked by the buildings, including the history of the peelers, and Scotland Yard. Trafalgar Square, the statue of Charles I and Nelson have important historical significance in the construction of British democracy and imperialism. Finally groups will head up Haymarket to Piccadilly Circus and the statue of Eros finishing at Sir Christopher Wren’s favorite church.
