Alan Johnson 60th Birthday
London Quest were asked to put together a Quest for Alan Johnson’s 60th Birthday party. Living outside of London he received a letter from the Quest team inviting him to London to meet his family. He arrived at the beautifully constructed ‘Meeting Place’ at St Pancras station and was quickly taken to the Champagne bar to taste the delights of the longest champagne bar in Europe. (A bit of a myth to be fair, it has a long line of seats really). After completing his Champagne testing he then was united with his family and they set off together to complete their Quest. Prior to the event we at London Quest had received a profile on Alan from his son Richard. We took this information and wrote an appropriate narrative that Alan would enjoy. All the clues were also specifically written to engage Alan and make his experience a truly unforgettable one. Being the owner of a farm and a avid supporter of ‘green’ policies the narrative was based in the struggle between big business and green activists to keep a plot of land as a conservation area. Tasks to persuade the capitalists to change their opinions varied from, bike races in Greenwich Park, locating a recorded message under a bar stool and dragging an activist out of the Thames and down from a tree. Having pieced together all the evidence they could, the then embarked in challenging the capitalists, providing arguments why the land was best left as it is and arguments on how renewable energy sources could benefit big business. The groups ideas were amazing and their arguments well thought through. The conclusion of the day was staged at a bar by St Pancras where the group finally got their way. |
